I've al...I might have to check this movie out. I've always been curious about it, and I've almost rented it a bunch of times. Polanski is a fascinating director just in the wildly varied movies he's made.<br /><br />I did really like The Pianist, mainly because it followed one individual through WWII. It seems like showing a shitload of people going through some horrible shit is much less effective than one dude/dudette's story. Plus, it features some incredibly atmospheric cinematography courtesy of Darius Khondji (SE7EN), which alone is worth checking out.<br /><br />You're right about the wildly inconsistent tone but I believe that is intentional.
